Tanya Coert

CIYT, c-IAYT

Tanya JP Coert is a Junior I level Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher, CIYT and a Certified Yoga Therapist with the International Association of Yoga Therapists, C-IAYT. Based in Redondo Beach, Tanya offers ongoing small group sessions (limit 8)  and specialty workshops (limit 6) at hOMe. Tanya also offers private and semi private sessions.

Tanya studies with Patricia Walden throughout the year, on yoga retreats and assists her mentor, Garth McLean, Yoga to Address MS and Other Movement Disorders Sessions at the BKS Iyengar Institute of Los Angeles previously held at Namastday in Beverly Hills. When Garth McLean is not teaching specialty classes in Los Angeles or Beverly Hills, Tanya practices the teachings on her own. Additionally, she seeks advice from Holly Walck Kostura as her recommending teacher and friend.

Tanya has tried numerous kinds of yoga since 1999. She did not make the commitment to become an ardent student of Iyengar Yoga until 2006, following her first natural childbirth. No other styles of yoga addressed her broken tailbone sustained from not pushing Tessa during labor. Iyengar Yoga helped her to find peace, even though she was in pieces. In 2010, Satya was born naturally with one ear 30 hours quicker and Momma’s pelvis fully in tact.

Tanya is deeply inspired by the healing potential of a dedicated yoga practice that her mentor lives and teaches all around the world. By the time Tanya saw Garth’s autobiographical one man show for the first time, she had been teaching a flow style yoga for a over a decade and taught the anatomy portion of an hour based yoga teacher training. In 2015, Tanya did the necessary and resigned from public teaching  to transition to becoming a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher. For her, it is a family affair - alongside her folks, husband and 2 daughters - she helped get Looking for Lighting to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in celebration of Mr. Iyengar’s Centenary. Lightning is written and was performed by Garth McLean every night for a month at the Royal Society on George Street, to an international audience late July and most of August 2018 at The Fringe.
